Pour a glass of The GlenAllachie 12 Year Old and the first thing you notice is the colour — a deep, sherry-soaked amber that tells you exactly where the flavour is headed. On the nose there's dark chocolate, treacle and heather honey, with cinnamon, espresso and sticky raisins sitting just underneath. The palate opens with marzipan and orchard fruit, then warms into mocha, butterscotch and a dusting of grated nutmeg on the finish. It's a lot of whisky for 46% ABV, and it's exactly why this one was crowned World's Best Single Malt 2025.
Behind the glass is a properly old-fashioned approach to whisky-making. GlenAllachie, tucked into Speyside near Aberlour, built its reputation on patient, cask-led maturation rather than shortcuts, and the 12 Year Old is matured across a combination of Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso Sherry and virgin oak casks. It's bottled unpeated at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and with no added colour, so what's in your glass is exactly what the wood gave it — nothing added, nothing taken away. That's the sort of detail a whisky lover who reads the back label will appreciate.
It's a good bottle for sipping slowly after dinner, neat or with a splash of water to open up the sherry notes, and it's also a gift for the whisky lover who already owns the obvious Speyside names and is ready for something that's quietly outclassing them. You'll find it alongside the rest of our Scotch whisky range, but at five bottles left in this batch, it's worth bringing home sooner rather than later.
